Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a high:performing maintenance team at a precision manufacturing facility in Tiverton. This role is critical to maintaining the efficiency, safety, and reliability of complex production machinery, including high:spec CNC equipment. Youll apply your mechanical expertise across preventative and reactive maintenance tasks while playing a key role in supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Maintenance
* Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repair work on a wide range of production equipment.
* Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems including motors, pumps, bearings, drives, gearboxes, and hydraulics.
* Perform calibrations, mechanical alignments, and component replacements with precision.
CNC Machinery Support
* Maintain and repair 3:, 4:, and 5:axis CNC machines to ensure operational accuracy and minimal downtime.
* Diagnose dimensional inaccuracies and mechanical faults in high:precision machinery.
* Support minor electrical maintenance where needed.
Operational Support and Coordination
* Collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimise disruption to manufacturing.
* Coordinate with external contractors and manage internal maintenance resources.
* Keep accurate maintenance records and report on equipment condition and service history.
Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving
* Identify recurring issues and implement root cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Support the standardisation and documentation of maintenance procedures.
* Drive initiatives aimed at improving machine reliability, efficiency, and lifespan.
Health, Safety and Compliance
* Conduct safety inspections and ensure full PPE and site compliance.
* Assist in risk assessments and incident investigations.
* Champion a culture of health and safety within the team.
Candidate Profile:
Essential Experience:
* Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment .
* Hands:on maintenance of CNC machinery (3:, 4:, and 5:axis) is critical.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical systems such as motors, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, and automated production equipment.
* Experience conducting mechanical alignments and precision fault diagnosis.
Desirable Backgrounds:
* Aerospace, automotive, motorsport, or high:precision subcontract machining.
* Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and maintenance standardisation.
* Ex:Forces (e.g., Royal Navy or RAF) engineers with mechanical/aviation maintenance experience.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Qualifications: NVQ Level 3, City and Guilds, or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
* Mechanical Aptitude: Strong troubleshooting, alignment, and mechanical diagnostic skills.
* CNC Knowledge: Working knowledge of CNC machine tool geometry and maintenance procedures.
* Health and Safety: Familiarity with risk assessments, incident investigations, and safe working procedures.
* Teamwork and Communication: Able to work independently or as part of a multi:skilled team. Clear communication skills are essential.
