Who are Women’s Aid?

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of just under 180 organisations which provide over 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.

Our support services, which include our Live Chat, the Survivors’ Forum, the No Woman Turned Away Project, the Survivor’s Handbook, Love Respect (our dedicated website for young people), the national Women’s Aid Directory and our advocacy projects, help thousands of women and children every year.

Purpose of the Survivor Services Manager role:

The Survivor Services team provides a range of interventions that support the safety of Women and Children affected by Domestic Abuse. Namely, but not exclusively - the Survivors Forum, Friends and Family Service, Professionals Service, MOJ service and National Quality Standards assessment role. The role will involve overseeing the day-to-day operational delivery of Women’s Aid’s (WA) Survivor Services, taking responsibility for service planning, delivery, impact monitoring, budget management, quality assurance, and evaluation. Additionally, the post holder will be responsible for identifying and developing income-generating products that benefit survivors, working closely with income-generating teams to ensure alignment with WA’s objectives.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Survivor Services Manager:

To assist the Head of Policy & Survivor Services in developing, implementing, and reporting on a strategic and operational plan for survivor services.

To assist with the development and maintenance of an equality framework and ensure the provision of services against agreed standards.

To ensure the management, supervision, appraisal, and development of direct reports in the department, and other staff as required to ensure delivery of high-quality services in accordance with best practise, including the recruitment and training of all staff and volunteers.

To take responsibility for safeguarding management and oversight/decision making in the need for emergency intervention.

To work closely with the Research and Evaluation teams on regular reporting, evaluation, and research to inform the relevance and impact of direct services.

To oversee performance monitoring to ensure consistency, quality, and a trauma-informed approach across the service with close alignment to Membership services.

To work with the No Woman Turned Away Senior Practitioner, developing and implementing systems and practice that will ensure the consistent delivery of a high quality and efficient service.

To maintain effective cross-organisational working relationships to ensure that the technical systems behind each service are functioning as needed, feeding back priority issues, and identifying future developments.

To undertake regular reporting to funders and prepare reports to the Safeguarding and Standards Committee.

To be an active member of the WAFE Safeguarding Working Group

To monitor whether the service has the resources required to operate effectively and that these are managed within the budgetary restrictions.

What we are looking for in our Survivor Services Manager:

Knowledge and experience of the priorities for corporate and private sector organisations in relation to staff welfare and safeguarding.

Knowledge of the rights and options available to women and their children living with and fleeing domestic violence, including knowledge of relevant legislation.

Knowledge of refuge provision and the range of services available for survivors and children affected by abuse provided across England and Wales.

Experience of direct work with survivors and their children who have experience of domestic violence or other forms of abuse.

Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding issues and the management of risk.
