* Level 1: £35,412 to £39,152
* Level 2: £39,862 to £41,771
* Senior: £42,839 to £46,142

Role Overview

Would you like to work in one of the largest Private Housing Services in England and help improve Bristol’s private rented sector housing standards? Bristol is a vibrant city, with a high number of privately owned and rented properties. We are currently delivering a number of area-based property licensing schemes, in addition to the city-wide mandatory licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation.

A large proportion of our work involves tackling poor conditions and unsatisfactory management in licensed properties. However, the service also inspects a significant number of properties that do not require a licence, taking reactive and targeted action in line with our enforcement policy objectives.

Successful candidates will be placed in one of the following teams depending on their experience and the requirements of the service: licensing inspections; licensing enforcement; complaints. There may be opportunities in the future to work in different teams.

A competence-based grading system rewards experienced officers for their expertise and supports newer-qualified officers in developing their careers. You will be offered a point on the pay scale based on factors including your experience and level of qualification. Once in post you can progress to the top of the scale through annual increments and assessed levels of competency.

Benefits

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. For the majority of our roles, hybrid working arrangements are available, giving people the opportunity to work in a way that suits them, balancing service need and individual choice - mixing both home and office working. Join us and you’ll receive an excellent rewards package including flexible working and flexitime, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.

Application Process

To be shortlisted for interview you’ll need to demonstrate how you meet each of the essential criteria in the Person Specification within the Further Information section of your application. On occasion we will receive high numbers of applications, we may then shortlist against the desirable criteria along with the essential criteria, so if you can, please demonstrate how you meet this in your application.

Disability Confidence

We're a Disability Confident employer which means we value recruiting and retaining disabled people. Any job applicants who consider themselves to be disabled and meet the essential criteria in the Person Specification are guaranteed an interview. We'll make reasonable adjustments throughout the interview process and provide continued workplace support throughout your career.
