3 Month Contract With A Local Auhtourity
Job Purpose
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of refuse collection vehicles and for assisting in the collection, sorting, and disposal of household, commercial, and recycling waste. Works as part of a team to maintain cleanliness and environmental standards in the local area.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate refuse collection vehicles (e.g., RCVs, caged tippers) in accordance with road safety laws and company policies.
* Carry out daily vehicle checks, ensure roadworthiness, and report defects or incidents promptly.
* Collect refuse, recycling, garden waste, and bulky items from residential and commercial properties as per scheduled routes.
* Assist loaders and ground operatives with manual handling of bins, bags, and other waste items where required.
* Ensure correct and safe loading/unloading of waste materials, maintaining balanced loads to avoid overfilling or spillage.
* Use onboard technology (e.g., route trackers, bin lift systems) in accordance with training and operational procedures.
* Drive and work in a manner that minimises disruption, noise, and environmental impact in residential areas.
* Provide excellent customer service when interacting with the public and address queries courteously or refer them appropriately.
* Follow all relevant health & safety procedures, wearing PPE and adhering to manual handling best practices.
* Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
* Carry out additional duties such as street cleaning, fly-tip removal, and depot-based tasks as required.
Requirements
* Full UK driving licence (Category C or C1 usually preferred for RCVs)
* Strong awareness of health & safety regulations
* Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks in varying weather conditions
* Team player with a proactive and flexible approach
* Punctual, reliable, and professional
Requirements
Previous experience as an estate cleaner General education qualification (desirable) UK driving licence
