Senior Associate Director HV Cable System Design Engineer
At Jacobs, we’re challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world’s most critical problems. As part of our UK and Continental Europe team, we’re working on high voltage infrastructure and energy transition projects across the UK.
You will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, from tendering through to project handover.
Responsibilities
* Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design, design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
* Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
* Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
* Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved; attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
* Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF, EMF and sheath induced voltage calculations.
* Perform design reviews, verification of design.
* Ensure all project designs comply with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
* Assist with temporary works design schemes.
* Maintain good working relations with client, designers and the supply chain.
* Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction.
* Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required.
* Support factory inspections (FAT).
* Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters.
* Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
* Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for control of the works.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
* Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
* Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
* Ability to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
* Experience of using CYMCAP to support cable system design.
* Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
* Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems, for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
* Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.
