An exciting opportunity for a Lead Pharmacy Technician in the Controlled Drugs Room has become available on a 9-month secondment, as the current post holder is going on Maternity Leave. This role is ideal for an experienced Pharmacy Technician looking to develop their skills and gain more experience in this area of Pharmacy.
Joining a team of Lead Technicians, this role supports the Chief Technicians in delivering a safe and high-quality Pharmacy service. It involves managing the day-to-day operations of the controlled drug room to ensure a timely and accurate top-up service.
This position offers a great opportunity to enhance leadership and organisational skills within a busy acute hospital Pharmacy setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide training and assessment for Pharmacy Dispensary staff, aligned with the Trust's CD policies, to ensure a high-quality service.
* Manage stock levels and accuracy, investigating discrepancies promptly in line with Trust policies.
* Order and receive Controlled Drugs from suppliers.
* Complete and file legal paperwork related to controlled drugs.
* Support staff training in line with Trust procedures and staff validations, collaborating with the Pharmacy Education and Training team.
* Dispense and check Controlled Drugs to wards, ensuring they are listed on ward stock lists, and liaise with ward teams if not.
* Oversee daily stock management and ordering in the controlled drugs room.
* Organise and lead regular stock takes, ensuring procedures are followed to maintain accuracy, and discrepancies are investigated and reconciled with the Chief Technician.
* Manage the destruction of Patient Own Medicine (POM).
* Monitor service KPIs to ensure quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.
* Review service standards and implement improvements where appropriate.
* Support staffing management and absence coverage, adhering to the Trust's Wellbeing and Attendance policies.
* Participate in recruitment and selection of Pharmacy Dispensary staff.
