Description
Department and Job Purpose
To support the Buttery and food service teams with washing, storing and stocking of plates, cutlery and food service crockery. Assistance with the preparation of functions and rooms and processing of deliveries. Support to full time Plate Room Assistant.

Key Responsibilities
Main Duties
* Washing of all crockery, cutlery and some glass ware through an electrical dishwasher to a safe standard.
* Daily Cleaning of the electrical dishwasher, conveyors and food macerator.
* Strict observance of hygiene, health and safety regulations, COSHH and good practices.
* Daily checking, and topping up of salt, if required in the water softener.
* Ensuring the Plate Room is kept clean tidy at all times.
* Ensuring all rubbish and food waste is removed after each meal.
* Performing any other reasonable request made by the Steward or his deputy in his absence.
* Assistance in the set up and clean down of student meals and events.
Stock
* Maintaining stock levels of required cleaning chemicals and requesting orders when needed through Assistant Stewards.
* Recording breakages and notifying Steward when stock levels of items are getting low.
Health and Safety
* Ensure compliance with health, safety and hygiene regulations, internal guidelines / procedures, COSHH and licensing law.
Security
* Ensure the security of the College, department and associated areas during and after service.
General Duties
* The post holder will be required to be familiar with, and work in accordance with, all College’s policies and procedures.
* To participate in training and development required by the College.
* To be willing and prepared to undertake any other duties as directed by Steward or Assistant Stewards. The job description may be subject to review in consultation with the postholder.
* To be vigilant and take responsibility for ensuring the Buttery and College property and equipment is kept safe at all times.
* To ensure all personal data relating to individuals is kept confidential in accordance with College policies and relevant data protection regulations.
Person Specification and Criteria
Essential
* Experience of food service in a hotel, restaurant or College environment.
* Provide a high level of customer service.
* Good verbal and written communication skills in order to liaise with other team members effectively.
* Experience of Health and Safety, Hygiene regulations, COSHH and licensing laws.
Desirable
* Experience of food service equipment cleaning and upkeep.
* Knowledge of the correct processing and movement of deliveries and goods.
Summary of Terms and Conditions of Employment
Appointment: This is a permanent part time post and there will be an initial probationary period of six months. The appointment will be conditional on verification of the successful candidate’s ‘Right to Work’ checks and subject to the receipt of satisfactory references and medical clearance through the University’s Occupational Health Services.
Salary: £18,432.56 per annum pro rataper annum(full time equivalent - £26,811 per annum).
Part time working 55 hours over a 2-week rota (Week 1: 33.5 hrs, Week 2: 21.5hrs). Shifts as below for guidance with an unpaid 30-minute break where the shift is 6 hours or more.

A willingness and ability to adopt a flexible approach to working hours and duties is necessary. The post holder will be required to work the hours necessary to fulfil the job requirements and subject to operational needs of the College.

Bank Holidays which fall within the full terms of the University of Oxford are normally worked, for which compensatory time-off in lieu will be given. The holiday year begins on 1 January and ends 31 December. For part years of service your entitlement will be calculated as 1/12th of the annual entitlement for each completed month.
