Job Title: Assistant Accountant Location: Harrogate Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum Hours: Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week) Hybrid : 1 day per week following probation Our client is a well established importer and distributor, supplying products wherever and whenever they are needed. As Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role within a small, collaborative finance team, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. You will be responsible for ensuring accounting records are accurate, up to date and reported in a timely manner while working closely with internal departments. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail focused individual with strong Excel skills who enjoys variety, responsibility and involvement across the full accounting cycle. Key Responsibilities: Maintain accurate accounting records, including bank postings and reconciliations. Manage foreign currency bookings for stock purchases and process related transactions. Book stock onto the stock system and reconcile with the finance system. Process payments for approval and support stock taking activities. Prepare month end accounts including depreciation, accruals and prepayments. Complete balance sheet reconciliations and support group compliance and monthly reporting. Prepare VAT returns and quarterly corporation tax payments on account. Assist with year end audits and liaise with auditors as required. Support budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc financial reporting. Manage sales and purchase ledgers for trading and mill contracts. Provide day to day operational cover for the Finance Assistant, handling general finance queries. Liaise with internal teams as well as external stakeholders such as HMRC, banks, insurers, customers and vendors. Skills & Experience: Highly accurate with strong attention to detail and excellent numerical skills. Confident Excel user with experience working across finance systems. Proactive self starter who takes ownership and works well independently. Strong communicator, comfortable liaising with both internal and external stakeholders. Team player who collaborates effectively across departments. Organised, reliable and able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Previous experience in an accounting or finance role is essential.
