The Emergency Department are actively seeking qualified Consultant within the area or for those who are looking to relocate and commence employment as a substantive Consultant.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest NHS hospitals in the whole of the UK, including our brand-new Major Trauma Centre building which is due to open in 2024.

You will join a team of 25 Emergency Medicine Consultants, 2 Specialists working at Consultant level, 4 Ambulatory Paediatricians and 3 Paediatric Emergency Nurse Consultants.

The sucessful candidate will participate in delivering the full spectrum of Emergency Care across the Emergency Village, which includes our brand-new state of the art Emergency Receiving Area (ERA) situated within our new Major Trauma Centre building.

* If you have a keen interest in research, there are many opportunities open to you within the Major Trauma Centre. Our services based within the building have a strong research-ethos.
* You can be part of a series of exciting firsts, including the installation of the RAPTOR theatre, the first hybrid major trauma theatre in the UK.
* If you’ve got a head for heights, you can be proud to work in a building, which introduces a helipad to the Salford Royal’s site and crucially, gets the sickest patients to hospital even faster.
* You can be a part of a Trust with a team dedicated to training and educating clinicians of the future.


Main duties of the job

Unscheduled care of adult and Paediatric patients presenting to A&E with a broad spectrum of clinical conditions.

Delivery of trauma care in the new trauma and resuscitation center

Morning ward rounds in the Emergency Village

Shop floor clinical supervision of junior medical staff, nurse clinicians and nurse practitioners over the whole of the unscheduled care service. Participation in multi-disciplinary meetings related to direct patient care.

Patient related administration including complaint handling, police statements and coroners’ reports.

Person specification


Qualifications

* FRCEM
* Completion of a recognized training programme in emergency medicine
* To be formally recognized as Clinical Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards
* Primary Medical Qualification (e.g. MBChB)
* To be formally recognized as Educational Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards


Professional Registration

* Registration on the GMC Specialist Register-CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT


Experience & Clinical Skills

* Experience of the whole spectrum of emergency medicine including paediatric emergency medicine and observational medicine.
* Evidence of continuing personal and professional development and keeps up to date with medical advances.
* Knowledge and appreciation of the core legal, ethical and political issues which govern medical practice.
* Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice. Up to date ALS, APLS, ATLS or ETC provider
* Instructor status on one or more life support courses


Skills & Abilities

* Evidence of good organisation and leadership skills
* Practical skills as outlined in RCEM curriculum
* High levels of interpersonal and communication skills
