Overview
PCN Pharmacy Technician role within Middleton & Hunslet Primary Care Network. Employed by South East Leeds GP Group and deployed/day-to-day managed by the Middleton & Hunslet PCN. Working across the 4 GP Practices and 10 Care Homes covered by the PCN.
Responsibilities
* Clinical, technical and administrative pharmacy technician duties to maximise safe, cost-effective medicines use and improve quality of patient care.
* Lead improvements in prescribing, support repeat dispensing and online ordering, and reduce wasted medicines.
* Support medicines optimisation through patient-facing activities and collaboration with the PCN multidisciplinary team; assist with Structured Medication Reviews (SMR) and monitoring tests where required.
* Promote Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and EPS/ePrescription initiatives; streamline ordering and return processes; minimise clinical risk.
* Collaborate with Clinical Pharmacists and other professionals to deliver national requirements, NICE guidance, and medicines optimisation initiatives.
* Support the PCN in delivering Quality Improvement Plans, QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services; contribute to practice policy reviews for CQC requirements.
* Provide training and leadership to the multidisciplinary team; monitor and review performance and implement infection control, health and safety procedures.
Requirements
* Essential – Professional registration with GPhC; BTEC NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences; evidence of CPD; experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy.
* Demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexible, self-motivated and proactive; able to travel across multiple sites; strong time management and prioritisation skills.
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); able to adapt communication for different audiences, including patients, carers and colleagues.
* Ability to analyse and interpret prescribing data; understand NHS PCN aims, GP budget-management and funding systems; knowledge of pharmacy law and ethics; ability to influence and persuade stakeholders.
* Desirable – Experience in primary care; use of SystmOne (clinical database); knowledge of local public health issues.
* Mandatory checks – Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; current UK professional registration.
Qualifications
* GPhC registration; BTEC NVQ Level 3 or equivalent; CPD demonstrated; experience in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
* Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge within Primary Care Networks and General Practice; understanding of NHS targets and financial balance for GP services.
* Knowledge of medicines optimisation, rational prescribing, and pharmaceutical law/ethics; ability to evaluate prescribing data; attention to detail; resource management and prioritisation.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills; ability to adapt style for diverse audiences; strong data protection and confidentiality awareness.
Work pattern
Contract: Permanent; Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible working; Hours: 30-37.5 hours; Location: Middleton & Hunslet PCN, Leeds, LS14 1HX; Salary: £29,970 – £36,483 per year (FTE), dependent on experience; Interviews: 15 October 2025.
