Job summary
The post holder will play a key role in the neuro oncology and skull base multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality care to patients. The clinical nurse specialist will be an experienced, registered nurse. They will have a role in the coordination and day-to-day management of brain and CNS tumour patients undergoing surgery to ensure a high standard of service provision. The post holder will provide information, counselling, education, and practical support for patients, their families, and healthcare professionals. They will work across organizational boundaries and with primary care to ensure a seamless service from diagnosis through the surgical pathway, including referral to other specialty treatment centres or discharging patients. The post holder will foster good working relationships and communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team and service users to ensure high standards of care. They will participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, present patient cases when appropriate, act as an advocate for patients with brain tumours, and contribute to adult services where relevant. The role requires a highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience, aligned with NICE guidelines, and adherence to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
Main duties of the job
* Act as a key worker for a clinical caseload, coordinating care and providing ongoing support for patients.
* Perform comprehensive assessments of patient needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating care delivery according to healthcare changes.
* Collect, collate, evaluate, and report clinical information, maintaining accurate patient and nursing records.
* Act as an advocate for individual patients; involve patients and relatives in care planning and delivery; evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and protocols.
