Overview
Somerset Council Building Control oversees various project types across a large and busy county. All staff are given opportunities to grow and receive exposure to different property types to develop their skills and expertise. Together we work to ensure the built environment in Somerset is safe and compliant for the people of Somerset.
Responsibilities
* Managing your own geographical area autonomously.
* Carrying out appraisals of Building Control applications to check for compliance with relevant regulations and legislation.
* Conducting site inspections on all projects in your area, working with clients, designers and contractors.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator, working towards Class 2 registration status.
* Experience in Building Control with the ability to apply relevant requirements and take necessary action.
* Degree level qualification or chartered status with either CABE, RICS or CIOB.

Salary
Grade 9: £41,771 to £46,142 per annum. A supplement allowance of £3,300 per annum is linked to the Principal Building Control Surveyor, bringing the total to £45,071 to £49,442 per annum, subject to standard payroll deductions. The allowance is time‑limited and will expire on 31/10/2028.
