Job Summary
We are the NHS 111/Select the Mental Health Option service, a 24/7 mental health crisis line for anyone in crisis. This role is telephone-based in Worthing.
Shift Patterns
* Early: 7am – 3pm
* Late: 1pm – 9pm
* Night: 20:45 – 07:15
The successful applicant will work a mixture of all shifts.
Responsibilities
Provide frontline telephone support to callers experiencing mental health crises, using a specific triage tool and existing skills. Escalate to clinicians or signpost to services across Sussex. Receive initial induction and ongoing training, participate in supervision and group reflection, and mentor other new call operators.
Requirements
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Competent IT skills.
* Experience of working with people with mental health needs.
* Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, varied and demanding environment.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and nights.
* Able to work autonomously.
* Ability to travel and work from an office base in Sussex.
Flexibility with working patterns to include some weekend and evening work is essential. Increased rates of pay for unsocial hours are set under the Agenda for Change (AfC) guidelines.
Person Specification
* Demonstrate current experience of working with people with mental health problems.
* Working knowledge of mental health policies and procedures.
* Demonstrate experience and understanding of risk management in mental health.
* Child and adult safeguarding procedures.
* Change management skills and ability to organise and prioritise workload.
* Demonstrate ability to enhance care through evidence‑based knowledge.
* Demonstrate professional development relevant to the specific care group.
Desirable
* Additional training in mental health.

Salary & Benefits
Band 4: £28,392 to £31,157 per annum (pro rata for part time). Permanent contract, full‑time or part‑time with flexible working options.
