The role
As a Senior / Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. At Devonport Dockyard, Babcock supports the Royal Navy submarine fleet, with a number of operational nuclear and radiological facilities for the upkeep and maintenance of submarines.
For the foreseeable future, Babcock are significantly upgrading the Devonport site and as such you will have the opportunity to support the design and build of new, submarine maintenance facilities.
Day to day, you’ll support the business by providing your expert knowledge around safety engineering to ensure the upkeep of our nuclear submarine facilities.
1. Provide technical advice on nuclear safety assessment processes and policy
2. Ensure compliance with statutory legislation
3. Deliver nuclear safety cases
4. Develop and implement nuclear safety processes and standards
5. You may also be responsible for acting as an intelligent customer for 3rd party deliverables assuring the output is fit for purpose
This role is full time at 36 hours a week with a hybrid working structure and will be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. Essential experience of the Senior / Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer:
6. A background in nuclear/radiological safety
7. Good interpersonal skills and be competent in verbal and written communication
8. The ability to operate and interface effectively with senior stakeholders
Qualifications for the Senior / Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer:
9. Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and/or have relevant knowledge and experience
10. Chartered Engineer status is desirable (or working towards this)
