Mythe Medical Practice, based in Tewkesbury, has an opening for a GP looking to join our outstanding practice.
This post is ideal for a GP who enjoys collaborative working as part of a friendly team in a purpose-built medical centre in the heart of the community.
4 sessions per week (2 sessions on Wednesday and 2 sessions on Thursday).
Duty sessions on rota morning in admin room processing urgent on the day requests and whole day seeing urgent on the day cases and triaging in the afternoon.
Employed under 2026 to 2027 new GP funding this is initially a FixedTerm contract running to 31st March 2027. Depending on staffing and Partner changes the role may become permanent but this is not guaranteed.
Main duties of the job The Salaried GP will manage their own caseload based on their allocated patient list dealing with a wide range of primary care health needs.
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake varying duties within the Primary care setting. These include, but are not limited to, face to face consultations, telephone consultations, home visits (although these are often undertaken by a Paramedic), care home visits, repeat medication work - dealing with queries and signing prescriptions, dealing with correspondence and tasks in a timely manner, making autonomous decisions in respect of patient care whether self presenting or referred by other agencies, admitting patients to hospital or other medical facilities where appropriate, managing and developing care plans for patients, participating in screening and review of ongoing health conditioning in the patient population in order to meet practice targets. Generally the post holder will be required to undertake the normal duties associated with the work of a Primary Care Salaried GP.
About us
Our 9 GPs (6 partners and 3 salaried) are supported by a wider clinical team comprising of 2 nurse practitioners, 5 practice nurses, 3 HCAs and 2 part time clinical pharmacists. The administrative and management team is made up of long-standing staff with a varied and strong administrative and management wealth of experience and knowledge, including nursing specialist trained in chronic disease management, QOF recalls management team and a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
We are a training practice hosting up to 3 GP registrars at any one time and we are currently supporting 2 medical students from Three Counties Medical School.
Our internal focus is on wellbeing of our staff, achieved with various protected learning events, staff wellbeing sessions (such as yoga run by one of our salaried GPs), regular meetings sharing clinical knowledge and providing support to colleagues.

Job responsibilities A Salaried GP works as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care while complying with the contract.
Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.
The role is to support, mentor, and supervise other healthcare professionals within the organisation and be an integral part of the general practice team.
The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.
The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population.
The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract.
To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly, referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines.
Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance.
Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
Effective management of long‑term conditions.
To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self‑care.
Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks.
Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways.
Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance.
Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload.
Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process.
Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans.
Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice.
Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF.
Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required.
Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training.
Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children.
Ensure compliance with the appraisal process.
Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice.
Commit to self‑learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team.
Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies.
Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
To be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi‑disciplinary team.
There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staff levels.
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Salaried GP has the following wider responsibilities.
Participate in the spectrum of clinical governance processes.
Participate in formal training events promoting best practice in area of expertise, provide leadership and education for members of the multi‑disciplinary team, providing guidance and support when necessary.
Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
Person Specification Qualifications
Fully qualified GP - registered or about to register with MRCGP Vocational Training Certificate (JCPTGP) Certificate of completion of training (CCT), conforms to the National Performers List and is able to perform any such service as detailed within Regulation 24 of the National Health Service (Performers Lists) (England) Regulations 2013. Evidence of current validation, evidence of last appraisal, proof of eligibility to independently practice in the UK, appropriate defence indemnity - proof of (will be added to practice policy on successful completion of probationary period), experience of working in a primary care environment.
Additional skills in specialist in one or more clinical area.
Understanding and knowledge of QOF and enhanced services.
Knowledge of local health issues.
Experience
Fully qualified General Practitioner with experience of working autonomously in busy clinical sessions.
Experience of working in primary care – GP Practice or PCN.
