Position Summary: Equipment Operator is an entry-level position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The role requires working at various locations, with potential travel to other states based on customer demands.
Essential Functions:
* Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work on energized and de-energized overhead electrical systems safely.
* Set poles and anchors.
* Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
* Help replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits.
* Work with energized high voltage systems, requiring caution and skill to ensure safety.
* Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
* Perform rigorous physical labor as required.
* Use company radio properly.
* Operate heavy equipment.
* Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying.
* Use hand tools correctly and maintain them.
* Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
* Be familiar with induced voltage.
* Assist with installation and hookup of single-phase transformers.
* Perform basic bucket rescue/escape procedures.
* Set up and ground equipment properly.
* Work at heights and in confined spaces safely.
* Check transformer voltages.
* Follow flag and tag procedures.
* Install and remove services.
* Wear personal protective equipment when necessary.
* Make up and use hand lines and Kellum grips.
* Identify different materials used in line work.
* Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
* Travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations.
* Obtain a Commercial Driver's License; it is preferred.
* Lift over 50 lbs.
* Work overtime and weekends as required.
* Learn basic line work materials and procedures.
* Follow instructions properly.
* Inspect rubber goods and PPE.
Physical Demands: The employee must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle, feel, and reach frequently. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, vibration, extreme conditions, and loud noise is common. Work is performed outdoors in weather conditions.
