Field Service Engineer – The Role:
The Field Service Engineer will service equipment sold by V L Test Systems to customers across the UK.
Based from home, the Service Engineer will travel throughout their region, with occasional overnight stays. Responsibilities include inspecting, cleaning, servicing, calibrating, testing equipment at customer sites, attending breakdowns, fault finding, repairing equipment, and advising customers and the service office of potential issues.
All activities must follow company policies and project a professional image of V L Test Systems, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth operations.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
This role requires strict adherence to health and safety rules, especially at hazardous sites like building sites, garages, and workshops. The Service Engineer must follow method statements and conduct dynamic risk assessments.
Primary focus is to minimize equipment downtime and ensure customer satisfaction. Documentation of engineering activities is required at each stage, including:
1. Working with colleagues to ensure smooth operations
2. Liaising with customers regarding service activities
3. Coordinating with Service Administrators regarding issues
4. Reviewing schedules for efficient on-site attendance
5. Ensuring availability of stock, tools, and documentation
6. Following correct procedures for inspection, cleaning, removal, servicing, calibration, and fault finding
7. Completing documentation and certificates timely
8. Reporting potential issues to management
9. Assisting with installation and commissioning as needed
10. Participating in meetings and providing workload updates
11. Training customers on equipment usage
12. Reporting safety issues and site conditions, including sending photos
13. Engaging in personal development and training
Qualifications, Experience & Profile:
The ideal candidate will have experience or willingness to learn about Commercial Vehicle Testing and DVSA Test procedures, with:
* Experience in engineering service, calibration, or commissioning roles
* Preferably experience in the Commercial Vehicle sector
* Numeracy and proficiency in English (verbal and written)
* Experience with Microsoft Office
* Motivated, dynamic, presentable, and punctual
* Ability to liaise effectively with all levels within the company
* A clean driving license is preferred
* Flexible working hours
Note: There is a six-month probation period, during which training will be provided by an experienced Field Engineer.
