Job Overview
* Provide a high standard of secretarial and administrative support to the Pensions Team, including creation and maintenance of Excel departmental trackers, extraction and balancing of contribution schedules, distribution of team workloads, data entry and maintenance in the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) payroll system, NHS Pensions Online and NEST systems, and minute taking of departmental meetings.
* Provide advice and information to managers and colleagues on the complexities of the three NHS pension schemes and advise staff and managers on the retirement process.
* Provide information and advice on opting in/out and joining the scheme.
* Communicate orally and in writing to managers, staff and external organisations in a sensitive, clear and competent manner.
* Develop and maintain an understanding of the NHS Pension Scheme and the alternative pension scheme, NEST.
* Support payroll, pensions and staff expenses for over 13,500 assignments within the Payroll Department.
Person Specification
Education / Training / Qualifications
* Essential: GCSE Maths and English.
* Desirable: Admin / Payroll / Pensions Qualification.
Work Experience
* Essential: Administrative experience in an office environment; proven practical experience of Microsoft Office, Excel and database software.
* Desirable: Experience of computerised pension systems; experience in NHS Pensions / using ESR.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
* Essential: Working to strict deadlines in a demanding and pressured environment; ability to prioritise work; ability to implement existing policies and procedures; knowledge of Microsoft, Excel and Word to create and maintain spreadsheets and respond to pension information requests; good communication skills; good computer skills and numeracy; ability to input all pension changes accurately; ability to work as part of a team; compliance with employee confidentiality and data protection legislation.
* Desirable: Knowledge and understanding of NHS and Local Terms and Conditions of Service affecting pensions; ability to understand and interpret the complexities of the Allocation to Cover (AfC).
