We are looking for a number of Recoveries Officers to join our Payment Recovery Team which will soon become part of the Benefit Expenditure and Debt Finance branch. These roles offer a supportive working environment and great career progression opportunities whether youre applying for a promotion or a lateral move.

As a Recoveries Officer youll play a key role in ensuring Social Security Scotland upholds our values of dignity fairness and respect while managing overpayments. This will include engaging daily with clients by telephone to negotiate affordable sustainable repayment plans considering the individual circumstances of each of our clients and ensuring the receipt and recording of overpayment referrals by telephone email or in writing.


Responsibilities

Examining overpayment referrals to identify whether or not recovery action is required.

Where appropriate initiating customer contact and undertaking an individual affordability assessment.

Agreeing suitable repayment arrangements with clients taking into account their individual circumstances.

Handling client and 3rd party telephone calls and enquiries in relation to overpayments in a warm and friendly manner building trust with dignity and respect.

Providing accurate answers and information to clients questions with compassion. This may be by telephone email and online.

Ensuring accurate record keeping using IT systems to record update and monitor payment plans to ensure correct accounting of public funds.

Analysing complex information and making recommendations.

Experience in using IT packages such as Excel and Word.

If invited for further assessment this will consist of an interview and written job simulation assessment exercise.

Working pattern

Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location which will be either Glasgow or Dundee. Further Information

This role is only available to existing permanent civil servants who have successfully completed their probation period within Social Security Scotland or the broader Scottish Government.
