POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Bilingual Spanish Teacher to join the faculty at the elementary level within Danbury Public Schools. The ideal candidate will support the development of Spanish language proficiency, cultural awareness, and academic growth for bilingual learners in grades K–5. The teacher will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, deliver effective instruction aligned with state standards, and collaborate with colleagues to meet the linguistic and academic needs of multilingual students. Candidates should be student-centered, flexible, and committed to equity and excellence in a diverse school setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Deliver high-quality Spanish instruction aligned to curriculum standards and the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages
2. Develop and implement lesson plans that reflect differentiation and culturally responsive practices
3. Establish a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom culture conducive to learning
4. Manage classroom behavior and set consistent routines and expectations
5. Assess student learning regularly using formative and summative assessments; adjust instruction as needed
6. Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress
7. Communicate regularly with families to support student learning and engagement
8. Participate in school-based teams, professional learning communities, and relevant department meetings
9. Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and grade levels
10. Utilize instructional technology and digital tools to enhance learning
11. Contribute to the school community and promote a respectful, inclusive environment
12. Engage in continuous professional learning to improve practice and student outcomes
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
13. Strong content knowledge in Spanish language, grammar, and culture
14. Effective instructional and classroom management skills
15. Familiarity with ACTFL standards and proficiency-based instruction
16. Experience working with students in diverse, multilingual settings
17. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
18. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
19. Ability to integrate technology into instruction
20. Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and equity
QUALIFICATIONS:
21. Active Connecticut certification in Bilingual Education – Spanish (endorsement 902)
22. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Spanish, or related field (Master’s preferred)
23. Demonstrated success working in a multicultural, urban high school setting
24. Human relations skills to work effectively with students, families, and staff
25. Ability to prepare engaging, standards-based lesson plans
26. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Danbury Board of Education may find appropriate
Salary: Salary and wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education which can be found on our website.
