Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Inpatient Vascular and Surgical Therapy teams at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, working full‑time (37.5 hours) at the Worcester Royal Hospital. The role involves providing OT assessment, treatment and discharge planning for acute surgical, vascular and head & neck patients, supporting junior staff, and contributing to the integrated therapy service.

Job Purpose
To provide occupational therapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning to patients within the acute service, working within tight timeframes. To give guidance and supervision to less experienced staff and students, and to support the integrated therapy team across Trust sites.
Key Duties
* Hold an active caseload within the rotational specialty at the Worcester Royal Hospital, Worcester or the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.
* Provide assessment and treatment of inpatients and guide less experienced staff on assessment and treatment.
* Provide advice, mentorship and supervision for Band 5 occupational therapists, assistants and students.
* Work closely with physiotherapy colleagues within an integrated therapy service, promoting the Therapy Way.
* Assist in prioritising caseloads to ensure timely assessment and discharge.
* Conduct direct and indirect supervision and teaching of junior staff.
* Maintain high professional standards, using evidence‑based practice.
* Liaise with senior therapists and other agencies to support the service at a daily operational level.
* Attend and contribute to relevant clinical and managerial meetings, providing accurate reporting.
* Ensure timely provision of equipment and documentation to facilitate patient safety.
* Administer and interpret standardised assessments.
* Exhibit safe manual handling, loading, unloading, transport and fitting of equipment.
* Participate in projects or audit via the Therapy Clinical Governance groups.
* Apply national guidelines and maintain professional competence through training and CPD.
* Support recruitment and work countywide if required, including participation in 7‑day service where necessary.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Knowledge
* Clinically analyse and act on professional and ethical issues.
* Assess and form treatment plans appropriate to the acute setting.
* Prioritise caseload to enhance patient care and hospital flow.
Essential Experience
* Varied experience within an acute NHS hospital.
* Administration and interpretation of standardised cognitive assessments.
* Manual handling assessment and provision of low to high level equipment.
* Early intervention and acute rehabilitation.
* Working within a multidisciplinary team and fast‑track discharge.
* Supporting junior staff and students.
Desirable Experience
* Training other MDT members.
* Participation in audit or research.
* Senior senior‑level experience in a specialty.
* Experience in complex community visits.
Essential Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registered.
* Post‑graduate training related to medicine or surgery.
Desirable Qualifications
* Practice educator.
* Institute of Leadership and Management Level 3.
* Masters modules.
Other Job Requirements
* Able to commute between sites.
* Willing to work contract hours over 7 days, including 7‑day working and extended hours.
* Physical fitness for manual handling.
* Commitment to working in Worcestershire.
* Knowledge of WAHT.
* Full driving licence, access to a vehicle or alternative transport.
