The Role

We are seeking an experienced Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join our Project Assurance Team. This is a critical role providing day-to-day and long-term engineering assurance and support for control and instrumentation assets, ensuring safe, compliant, and profitable operations.

You will lead C&I activities across plant change, project definition, execution, and commissioning, while supporting urgent, technically complex issues and breakdowns. The role involves responsibility for control and instrumentation assets across specific areas or site-wide specialist technologies, as well as delivering P&C aspects of major projects.


What You’ll Do

* Provide C&I engineering assurance and specialist support for major projects and plant changes.
* Deliver engineering assurance for modifications and projects from design through commissioning.
* Support process safety reviews (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL) and ensure compliance with IEC61511 for electronic safety systems.
* Manage threats to reliable operation and implement design changes or maintenance strategies.
* Prepare technical specifications, assess vendor proposals, and ensure compliance with regulatory and business requirements.
* Drive adoption of new technologies and deliver P&C-focused projects for safety and reliability improvements.
* Define and optimise maintenance requirements and turnaround scopes.
* Provide input to production and project teams, driving reliability and improvement processes.
* Develop technical expertise and mentor others in P&C technologies.


What We’re Looking For


Qualifications & Experience

* Degree in a relevant technical field.
* Chartered status or working towards.
* Significant experience in instrumentation, control, and automation engineering within a large industrial environment, ideally an Upper Tier COMAH site.
* Strong knowledge of petrochemical processes, safety systems, and engineering standards (API, DEP, British Standards).
* Proven ability to identify issues, prioritise effectively, and deliver solutions under pressure.
* Experience in multi-disciplinary teams and project delivery.
