Offer description

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals to join our friendly and dynamic team of four oncology Specialty Doctors. This is an exciting time to join the team as a new, purpose‑built, Cancer Centre was opened in early 2020 and a brand new Oxford University Radiotherapy Centre opened in early 2025 on site at MKUH providing fantastic facilities for our oncology patients. This post offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join a rapidly growing oncology service. We are seeking a candidate who has good clear communication skills, works well in a team environment and has good attention to detail; support and training will be provided.

The post holder will work closely with all of our Oncology Consultants providing clinic and ward support to ensure continuity of care for all oncology patients within Milton Keynes Hospital Foundation Trust and to develop and enhance the care and service offered in oncology. Medical oncology experience is essential and radiotherapy experience is desirable for this post.

Our modern Cancer Centre provides a chemotherapy suite, outpatient consulting rooms, treatment areas, a ward for oncology and haematology patients and a Wellbeing Service. This developing service is supported by a forward‑thinking and supportive management team, nurse practitioners, a palliative care team and a Macmillan Information and Support Centre.

We firmly believe in holistic care, complementary therapy, clinical psychology and the Citizen Advice Bureau; all have clinics in the unit. We also offer careers and patient support groups.

Doctors considering an application are encouraged to visit the hospital and meet potential clinical colleagues. The Chief Executive and/or Medical Director would also be happy to meet doctors interested in this role, commitments allowing.

Milton Keynes University Hospital, in partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a university teaching hospital committed to advancing patient care through cutting‑edge research and education. With a “Good” rating from the CQC and significant investment underway, this is an exciting time to join our team and grow your career.

As a medium‑sized general hospital, we provide a full range of general medical and surgical services, including a busy emergency department, maternity and paediatrics. As the population of our city and surrounding areas grows rapidly, we are expanding and enhancing our facilities to meet rising demand and improve access to care for all our communities.

We are also proud to offer a growing portfolio of specialist services. In January 2025 we opened our state‑of‑the‑art radiotherapy centre, bringing advanced cancer treatment closer to home. Our services also include neonatology, specialist surgical care and a wide range of diagnostics, supported by the new Community Diagnostic Centre at Whitehouse Health Centre.

Further investment is underway, including the construction of Oak Wards – a new ward block featuring two 24‑bed wards – and the recently approved Women and Children’s Centre, set to open by 2030.
