Responsibilities and duties of the Operations Manager As the Operations Manager, you will: Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Energy Recovery Facility to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant performance. Ensure full compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements set by bodies such as the Environment Agency and the Health and Safety Executive. Monitor plant performance data and implement strategies to optimise energy output, efficiency, and emissions control. Lead, manage, and develop operational teams, ensuring effective training, performance management, and succession planning. Coordinate with maintenance teams to plan and execute preventative and reactive maintenance with minimal operational disruption. Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture across all operational activities. Manage operational budgets, control expenditure, and identify opportunities for cost and efficiency improvements. Liaise with regulators, contractors, and external stakeholders to maintain smooth and compliant facility operations. Develop and maintain emergency response and contingency plans, ensuring staff are trained and prepared. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant reliability, environmental performance, and operational standards. Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following: Demonstrated experience managing an Energy Recovery Facility, waste-to-energy plant, or comparable industrial process operation. Strong working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation relevant to industrial energy facilities. Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary operational or engineering teams. Experience in budget management, cost control, and operational performance improvement. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make effective decisions under pressure. Personal skills Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate teams and foster accountability. Calm, decisive, and resilient under pressure, particularly during operational incidents. Continuous improvement mindset with a commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
