Deputy Nursery Manager
Location: On-site Nursery (Further Education Setting)
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time (35 hours), Term Time Only - Fixed Term (1 Year)
Reporting to: Nursery Manager
The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Nursery Manager to support the day-to-day running of their on-site nursery provision.
This is a key leadership role within a well-established early years setting, providing high-quality childcare for children of students and staff. The Deputy Nursery Manager will work closely with the Nursery Manager to ensure the delivery of outstanding care, education, and safeguarding practices, and will take full responsibility for the nursery in their absence.
The successful candidate will also take on the role of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), ensuring children with additional needs receive appropriate support and inclusive learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
* Support the Nursery Manager in the daily operation and administration of the nursery
* Lead and motivate the nursery team to deliver high-quality childcare and education
* Supervise staff, contributing to appraisals, supervision, and professional development
* Lead room meetings and contribute to staff training and development
* Act as Deputy in the absence of the Nursery Manager
Quality & Curriculum
* Support the delivery of an inclusive, engaging curriculum in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
* Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching, learning, and care
* Contribute to action planning, audits, and continuous improvement processes
* Ensure all practices are inclusive and tailored to meet individual children’s needs
Safeguarding & Compliance
Take a lead role in safeguarding and child protection, responding to concerns in line with policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and frameworks, including EYFS, safeguarding guidance, and health and safety regulations
Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with GDPR and data protection requirements
Support preparation for inspections and ensure regulatory standards are consistently met
Operational Responsibilities
Support occupancy management, including allocation of nursery places and monitoring attendance
Assist with funding claims and administrative processes
Manage resources and ensure adequate supplies are maintained
Support financial processes such as petty cash and purchasing where required
Partnership Working
Build positive relationships with parents, carers, staff, and external professionals
Support children with SEND through effective SENCo practice
Work collaboratively with wider teams to support the needs of children and families
Candidate Profile
Essential requirements:
* Level 3 qualification in Early Years Childcare/Education (or equivalent)
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience within an Early Years setting
* Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework, child development, and safeguarding practices
Key skills and attributes:
* Experience supporting or leading a team within a nursery environment
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and use initiative
* Commitment to inclusive practice and supporting children with SEND
* A positive, proactive, and professional approach
Desirable:
* Additional professional qualifications
* Experience contributing to quality assurance, audits, or inspections
* Experience using digital systems within an early years setting
