Trainee Surveyor
The role
Working as part of a close-knit team, you’ll travel across England and Wales to assess and measure structural openings in people’s homes and on building sites – and do so accurately, in all weathers, sometimes at height, often with overnight stays away from home. You’ll document every detail and measurement so that high-quality, high-end bespoke windows and doors can be made to fit perfectly. Make an error and we could be looking at remaking, refitting, project delays and spoilt dreams too. Get it right and someone’s forever house comes together.
This is the entry point to a surveyor career at Norrsken, so you won't be working alone until you've earned your wings. You'll accompany experienced surveyors, learning the craft, getting familiar with the tools and sharing the drive. But from the start you'll be taking responsibility for what you record, because we'll make to what you measured.
You’ll need to be …
* Genuinely happy to travel and be away from home regularly, staying in hotels and B&Bs across England and Wales
* Willing to work outdoors even in cold, wet, hot and windy weather, not just the nice days
* Comfortable working at heights
* Qualified to drive and authorised to work in the UK
* Currently living in the UK
If any of those are a no, this isn’t the right role for you.
About us
We like things to look great, fit perfectly, work well, and last a long time. For us it happens to be windows and doors, but it could just as easily be something completely different. Great engineering, pleasing aesthetics and superb products that are loved by our customers – that’s what we’re all about. And we really value and invest in our people.
About you
Are you good with detail? Here’s a flavour. There are architectural details, structural details, aesthetic details, difficult to work out and even hidden details, building regulations, manufacturing constraints, and that’s just the tip of this particular detail iceberg. Is this you?
You might be a graduate, an architectural technician with a hankering for an outdoors element to their job, or a school leaver with the right aptitude and attitude. You might be changing careers from a different industry and used to working with different details. Don’t worry – let’s discover the overlaps.
What matters most is that you want to learn. Not \"I’d like a job that pays\" – but genuinely curious about how buildings are built. Willing to ask questions and unflustered at the prospect of being wrong. Our surveyors have years of experience and they’re happy to share with the “happy to learn” colleague. If you’re a sponge, ready to absorb, you’ll thrive at Norrsken.
You’ll be great if you are …
* A stickler for detail
* Able to write complex instructions that are easy to follow
* A logical thinker
* Numerate
* Able to visualise details in 3D
* Reliable and punctual
* A clear communicator, effective in dealing with people
* Tech-savvy
You’ll be even better if you have all the above and you bring bonus \"smarts\" – experiences, qualities and capabilities that we didn’t know to ask for.
What you’ll grow into
Our customers pay for a Norrsken survey and for good reason. Every detail of every door and every window is bespoke. Unique. Tailor made. Our surveyors understand buildings and they understand customers. They can spot moon-on-a-stick wish lists from a hundred paces. And they’re prepared to stand their ground when doing so will move a project from good to great.
As you succeed you will progress to becoming a Norrsken Surveyor – one of the most responsible and rewarding roles at Norrsken.
Whether it’s an award-winning home or the best-looking house on the street, it all started with an accurate, confidence-inspiring survey. A painstaking care of the details. It’s often a hidden work. But it takes great carers of detail to care for the details.
