Description
The AEM Architect is accountable for the stability, evolution, and optimisation of an existing global Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) platform. With AEM already live across multiple countries and brands, this role focuses on platform health, efficiency, governance, and continuous improvement, ensuring the platform remains compliant, scalable, and fit for long‑term use.
This role acts as the global technical authority for AEM, enabling safe and efficient change across regions while reducing risk, cost, and technical debt.
Scope and Accountability

Key Responsibilities
Platform Architecture & Evolution
5. Own the current-state and target-state architecture for the AEM landscape
6. Define and maintain a platform roadmap focused on stability, optimisation, and future readiness
7. Drive convergence toward global standards across regional implementations
8. Stability, Performance & Reliability
Improve platform stability, resilience, and performance
9. Identify root causes of recurring incidents and performance issues
10. Define standards for logging, monitoring, error handling, dispatcher, and CDN configuration
11. Partner with DevOps, infrastructure teams, and Adobe support to reduce operational risk
12. Change Governance & Continuous Improvement
Act as architectural authority for significant platform changes
13. Ensure changes are low risk, backward compatible, and standards-aligned
14. Enable regional enhancements without fragmenting the core platform
15. Support predictable, auditable release and deployment processes
Efficiency & Optimisation
16. Drive efficiencies in authoring experience, content reuse, and development processes
17. Reduce duplication of components, templates, and custom code across regions
18. Optimise AEM Cloud usage, performance, and cost at global scale
19. Improve developer productivity through reusable patterns and guidance
Technical Debt & Modernisation
20. Maintain a global technical debt register and prioritisation approach
21. Lead refactoring and modernisation initiatives
22. Remove legacy patterns and simplify complex customisations
23. Guide adoption of modern AEM capabilities, including headless or hybrid approaches where appropriate
Governance, Compliance & Standards
24. Define and enforce global standards for templates, components, content models, and MSM usage
25. Balance global consistency with regional autonomy
26. Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory, privacy, and accessibility requirements
27. Support audits and platform risk assessments
Collaboration & Leadership
28. Act as a trusted technical advisor to global and regional stakeholders
29. Provide architectural leadership across distributed, international teams
30. Govern and guide system integrators and agency partners
31. Mentor regional technical leads and developers
Skills and Experience
Essential
32. Extensive experience in enterprise digital platforms
33. Deep hands-on AEM expertise in large-scale, live environments
34. Strong knowledge of AEM Sites, Assets, MSM, Java, Sling Models, OSGi, HTL
35. Experience operating and optimising AEM as a Cloud Service or large AMS estates
36. Proven experience supporting multi-country, multi-language platforms
Desirable
37. Adobe AEM Architect or Lead Developer certification
38. Experience in pharma, life sciences, or other regulated industries
39. Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, Cloud Manager, and MarTech integrations
