Job Description:
Nixor is seeking Principal/Lead Architects with expertise in the Life Insurance / Assurance industry to join a newly formed architecture team for the UK's largest Mutual Pensions company. This is a unique opportunity to influence their technology landscape as they transition from legacy systems to a modern, microservices-based architecture.
About the Role
As a Lead Architect, you will own your domain, overseeing applications, cloud infrastructure, and services. You will help transform a legacy "spaghetti" architecture into a modern microservices architecture, starting a transformative journey supported by the company.
The transformation has board endorsement, a clear vision, no third-party dependencies, and in-house work, making this a well-supported initiative.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical oversight for your domain
* Collaborate with the board and senior stakeholders
* Lead the transition to a microservices architecture
* Define and implement best practices for development, security, and observability
* Mentor junior architects and technical teams
* Serve as the technical contact for your business unit
Why Join?
The Director of Architecture joined 6 months ago to build a high-performing architectural function with strong business support, emphasizing rapid impact and strategic influence.
Benefits include:
* Access to a significant change budget
* Minimal internal politics due to stakeholder alignment
* Focus on delivering customer-centric, user-focused designs from day one
Requirements:
* Strong background in solutions architecture (Applications, Cloud, Security)
* Experience modernizing legacy systems into microservices
* Deep knowledge of design patterns, cloud infrastructure, and security
* Prior experience in the Insurance industry, preferably Life Insurance
* Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on architectural work, working alongside Business Architects to shape the technical direction.
