What you’ll do…
As Tractor Driver/Craftsperson, you will work as part of a beat or unit team working in the Districts woodlands, open habitats or recreation sites completing a wide range of management tasks to help meet beat and District work commitments, H&S responsibilities and ongoing routine maintenance tasks.

Where you’ll work…
Yorkshire District covers an area from Teesside to Spurn Head, stretching over the North York Moors National Park, and the Leeds metropolitan are to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The district is responsible for the sustainable management of a 21,000-hectare estate, including some of England most expansive and ecologically important woodland parcels. These forests are of distinct natural importance, and are also steeped in history and culture, surrounding the homes of a diverse population. They attract over 400,000 visits per year, including at the Dalby Forest Visitor Centre. It is our job to manage these woodlands so that they produce a range of public benefits and ensure that they continue to thrive for many generations to come. We do this by managing spaces for wildlife and people, alongside sustainable timber production and carbon capture. We want to do our part to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for Yorkshire Forest District and the more than 3.5 million people who call the area home.
* undertake monitoring and data-gathering tasks such as the marking of trees for sale, tree safety inspections, fence line and boundary inspections and the assessment of tree density on restocked and newly planted sites
* contribute to the delivery of key programmes by providing a support service in delivering essential materials, consumables, plants etc to work sites
* maintain, restore and create various habitats for ecological benefit and improvement of the landscape
* The work will include the felling and planting of trees and shrubs and the management of vegetation, which may include fencing, chainsaw use and the application of pesticides
* inspect and maintain recreational facilities to a high standard, including the repair and maintenance of footpaths and cycle routes, litter picking and the installation and maintenance of signs, picnic tables, benches and play equipment etc. keeping records of inspections and repairs, as directed
* carry out a range of practical maintenance jobs throughout the forest estate, working effectively as part of a small team, and when requested responding quickly to unexpected work and issues raised by supervisors and foresters• operate FM tractor and implements such as chemical sprayers, side arm flails, harrows and other farm attachments to complete work programmes across beat or wider District areas
And any other task reasonably requested by your line manager.
