The role
The Pembrokeshire Environment Team Leader is a key role in delivering environmental benefits and improvements in the Pembrokeshire area. It involves overseeing a diverse team of Environment Officers, providing leadership, developing work plans based on national targets, setting team culture aligned with NRW values, and ensuring high performance in health, safety, and wellbeing. The role includes overseeing team members' development, ensuring they have appropriate tools, skills, and motivation, and working with other Wales-wide teams and technical groups.
The Team Leader manages ten officers, including Senior and Environment Officers, Project Officers, and Technical Support. The team handles project work, regulatory and enforcement activities, and incident response related to water quality, water resources, conservation, biodiversity, and fisheries. Collaboration with other NRW teams and public authorities is essential. The position is within the South West Operations structure, reporting to the South West Operations Manager. The post requires working across Pembrokeshire, with travel to attend meetings, events, and incident support. NRW supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements, with meetings via Microsoft Teams. A DBS check is required, and appointments are typically made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
What you will do
* Develop and implement local work plans to deliver regulatory and SMNR goals, engaging stakeholders.
* Make regulatory decisions at the place level, ensuring compliance with the Regulators Code and principles.
* Authorize regulatory and enforcement decisions, including protected sites and consents.
* Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing of team members through safe practices and risk assessments.
* Manage budgetary control of team expenses.
* Lead a virtual technical team supporting place-based delivery.
* Play a senior role in NRW's non-Flood Incident Management Service.
* Undertake health and safety responsibilities appropriate to the role.
* Support NRW's Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy.
* Engage in personal development through the Sgwrs plan.
* Perform any other duties reasonable for the role.
