Competitive What You'll Be Doing:
Conducting
radiological safety assessments
to ensure the highest safety standards. Assessing
radiation damage risk
to electronics, keeping our systems safe and reliable. Developing and deploying
radiation detection systems
that are cutting-edge and effective. Completing the systems engineering design of the
secondary shielding system
. Running and analyzing
point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations
for accurate results. Providing
technical advice
on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel. Developing
ALARP justifications
to support informed design decisions. Your Skills and Experiences:
A degree in
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science
, or a related field. Demonstrable knowledge/experience in
radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety
. Experience with
radiological safety assessments
and
ALARP justifications
. Familiarity with
radiation transport methods
(e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP). Benefits:

Join a dynamic team responsible for designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK's nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage in various submarine programs at different engineering lifecycle stages, from designing new shields to conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning. Our work also includes radiological safety studies, designing novel radiation detectors, and developing capabilities in radiation damage to electronics.
