Support young lives through the night. Join Oakhurst Children's Home as a Wake Night Worker and provide safety, comfort, and reassurance to children and young people in a supportive team environment. Job Summary Working in Residential Childcare is far more than a job- it's a chance to make a real and lasting difference. At Oakhurst, a warm, nurturing, and supportive children's home run by Nottinghamshire County Council, we are looking for a compassionate and committed individual to join our team as a Wake Night Worker. Oakhurst is a specialist home providing 24-hour care for children who need stability, understanding, and encouragement. As a Wake Night Worker, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, calm, and secure environment where children can rest, feel valued, and continue to thrive. You'll work as part of a dedicated and skilled team, supporting children with complex and sometimes challenging behaviours. This role is both demanding and deeply rewarding. You will help children build trusting relationships, develop their independence, and realise their potential across all areas of their lives. Our residential workers come from various backgrounds, and we are eager to support new team members as they grow in this rewarding role. Key Responsibilities Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people during the night and to support them to get ready for the day ahead. Ensure the safety and well-being of all children and young people in the home. Respond to the individual needs of children and young people, including managing challenging behaviours. Work collaboratively with your team to create a nurturing environment. Maintain accurate records and documentation as required. Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills. Required Skills and Qualifications At least 6 months of experience working in a childcare setting. NVQ Level 3/Diploma in Residential Childcare is preferred; if not held, you will be required to undertake this qualification. Understanding of child development and the ability to support children with various needs. Soft Skills Demonstrate resilience and commitment to supporting children. Show empathy and understanding towards children's experiences. Work effectively as part of a team and communicate well with colleagues. Be adaptable and open to learning new skills and approaches. Working Hours and Benefits This role involves working shifts, including: 21.45 -07.45 4 shifts one week and three shifts alternate weeks, this is a 4 week rolling rota A 6-hour day shift in the 4 weeks to have supervision and embed in the team We offer generous enhancements for shift work, including additional pay for hours worked after 8 pm, weekends, and bank holidays.
