We welcome your application and the opportunity to discuss this exciting role further!https://youtu.be/Jrnu31jUoA0Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesYour Contribution:- Provide comprehensive consultant/specialist led care for patients on the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), a modern 24-bed ward located close to the Emergency Department.- Participate in daily consultant ward rounds (morning and afternoon) and twice-daily multi-disciplinary board rounds with specialty in-reach.- Supervise and lead the SDEC service, which accepts direct referrals from GPs, Urgent Care, and the Emergency Department, and manages step-down patients.- Contribute to the Medicine on-call rota (currently 1 in 11 weekday nights and Saturday on-call), and the Acute Medicine 1 in 7 weekends on AAU.- Engage in the education, mentoring, and supervision of junior medical staff and the development of Advanced Nurse Practitioner roles.- Work seamlessly with Emergency Care, providing responsive in-reach, rolling reviews of medical patients, and early senior clinical decision-making.Person specificationPerson SpecificationEssential criteria- MBBS or equivalent MRCP or equivalent- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine; eligible for entry on the Register or within 6 months of the receipt of Certificate of Completed Training (CCT) at the time of interview.- Should have completed a recognised training programme in Acute or General Internal Medicine (GIM)- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in GIM and Acute Medicine- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients- Experience in Postgraduate teaching- IT skills- Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty- Commitment to the development of a high-quality, cost- effective service to Acute and General Internal Medicine- Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues- Ability to develop services- Willingness and ability to work collaboratively as part of a clinical and non-clinical team- Excellent communication skills- Full registration with General Medical Council and licence to practise by date of appointment- Available on Isle of Wight when on call- Appropriate immigration statusDesirable criteria- Higher degree e.g. MD.
PhD- CCT in Acute Internal Medicine- Experience of running a Medical Assessment Unit- Experience of Acute Medical Service development- Knowledge of the Enhanced Recovery Programme- Published audits- Publication in reviewed journals- Attendance at recognised management course- Attendance at communications workshop/courses- Current driving licence
