Overview
The Hospitals North Sexual Assault and Forensic Medicine Examination (SAFE) Service provides a 24-hour, 7 days per week response to adults and children with an alleged sexual assault or family/domestic violence incident. The team consists of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Clinical Nurse Consultants who have completed the required training, with support from suitably trained medical officers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics. The SAFE team is part of Hospitals North Women’s and Children’s Services who support ongoing professional development and offer free Clinical Supervision within work time.
The Role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant - SAFE:
* Functions as an advanced clinical practitioner within the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) service and provides management support in the development of policies, procedures and service delivery to the Director of Women’s and Children’s Services for the provision of forensic examination and forensic specimen collection.
* Conducts forensic and physical examinations of victims of alleged sexual assaults, within a best practice framework in accordance with national policies, guidelines and frameworks, including providing treatment for injuries, the collection and preparation of evidence for the judicial system, and appearance as an expert witness as required.
* Coordinates and provides internal and external education, advice and support in relation to sexual assault forensic medical examinations.
You will need
* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
* Post-graduate qualification in the area of sexual assault forensic and medical examination and able to participate in a 24-hour 7 day per week roster.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Check.

Details of appointment
Permanent, part time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 15.96 hours per fortnight, commencing from 2 February 2026. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $118,297 to $125,543 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023. In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration.
Desirable criteria include holding or working towards a post-graduate qualification in the area of sexual assault forensic and medical examination.
