Small Works Officer (Engineering)

Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a successful candidate to join CHoICE inthe position of Small Works Officer (Engineering). Providing services on behalfof STSFT, you will be required to estimate, supervise, & manage a wide range of engineering related small works activities as well asundertaking a proactive role in the development and maintenance of health & safety standards within the Department.

Undertake range of engineering related worksincluding, but not limited to, minor new works, management of non-complexmaintenance contracts, & minor elements of wider capital schemes. Furthermore,toensure H&S standards can be maintained to the highest possible standardwhere engineering related works are completed, you will be requiredto play a key part in the delivery & management of engineering related H&Selements undertaken at properties managed by CFS. This will include, undertaking risk assessments, producing method statements & themanagement of various safety inspection/monitoring contracts.

You will have completed arecognised engineering related apprenticeship, ideally have experience of overseeingand managing electrically related installations typically undertaken within a hospitalenvironment and have a good knowledge of relevant standards, Health BuildingNotes and Heath Technical Memorandums.

Main duties of the job

Workingunder the management of the Assistant Estates Officer (Electrical and Controls)with oversight provided by the Estates Officer (Electrical & Controls), you will ensure high standards of safety at all times, including thesupervision, management & guidance of qualified engineering relatedcontractors & in house staff.

The rolewill require the post holder to undertake activities linked to allocated small/minor new work requests. This mayinclude: providing cost estimates, obtaining quotations, coordinationand supervision of internal and external staff, procuring & eventual management of the various disciplines relatedto the works through to completion. The role will also include the managementof non-complex maintenance contracts, and minor elements of wider capitalschemes. As part of this, successful applicants will be required to utiliseapproved & competent contractors and in house staff where applicable & oversee associated activities at properties managed/maintained by CHoICE.

The Post holder will also play a key role in thedelivery and maintenance of Health and Safety elements onsite and will berequired upon instruction to arrange work equipment inspections, undertake siteinductions, routinely undertake and review suitable task risk assessments,arrange and deliver staff training and arrange and deliver toolbox talks whereapplicable. Suitable record keeping will be required to ensure content deliveryand compliance can be demonstrated where appropriate.

Job responsibilities

The role will require the post holder toestimate, supervise and manage a wide range of engineering related Small Works includingbut not limited to minor new works, non-complex maintenance contracts, defectsidentified as part of planned/reactive maintenance and minor elements of awider capital scheme/budget. The post holder will be required to utiliseapproved contractors and in house staff where applicable and oversee associatedactivities at properties managed/maintained by CHoICE.

Working under the management of anAssistant Estates Officer (Electrical & Controls) with oversight providedby the Estates Officer (Electrical & Controls), the post holder will ensurehigh standards of safety at all times, including the supervision, management& guidance of qualified engineering related contractors and in house staff.

Although therole will predominantly be based at the Sunderland Royal Hospitalsite, there may be the requirement to work at other properties managed byCHoICE when the need arises.

The role may require participation inthe winter measures on call rota.

Experience

* A post apprenticeship experience in related engineering environment
* Detailed knowledge of modern engineering services
* Knowledge of relevant H & S legislation gained through specialist training courses
* Certificate in Management Studies or equivalent
* Experience of NHS Buildings and engineering services


Qualifications

* Completed a recognised relatable engineering related apprenticeship.
* Basic Numeracy & Literacy skills
* Knowledge & understanding of relevant engineering regulations and guidance.
* NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent Level 3 Qualification.
* Knowledge of engineering trades and works typically found within a large NHS Acute Trust.
* HNC/HND in an engineering discipline.


Skills

* Ability to cascade information to the internal and external customers.
* Ability to manage & supervise tasks / working to deadlines.
