Teacher of Science - Second in Department


Location: Oasis Academy Brightstowe, Bristol
Salary: MPS 1-6 / UPS 1-3 + TLR 2a
Start Date: As soon as possible
Interview Date: TBC
Contract: Full-time Permanent
Enhanced DBS required

Oasis Academy Brightstowe is seeking an inspirational Second in Science to help lead our thriving department and drive excellent outcomes for every student.
About the Role
As Second in Department, you will take on a key leadership position-supporting the Head of Science to deliver a high‑quality, knowledge‑rich curriculum that sparks curiosity and builds achievement. You will:
* Support the strategic leadership and day‑to‑day running of the Science department
* Lead on curriculum planning, assessment, and quality assurance
* Coach, mentor, and inspire colleagues to deliver consistently excellent teaching
* Teach engaging and challenging lessons at KS3 and KS4
* Use data effectively to raise standards and transform outcomes
* Contribute to whole‑school initiatives and uphold Oasis values
* Play an active role in our vibrant school community
* This is the perfect next step for a strong practitioner who is ready to broaden their impact.

The Ideal Candidate


We are looking for someone who:
* Holds QTS and a degree in Science
* Has excellent subject knowledge across the Sciences
* Brings experience of teaching at KS3 and KS4
* Has a proven track record of securing strong student outcomes
* Demonstrates emerging or established leadership skills
* Builds positive relationships with students, staff, and families
* Is reflective, resilient, and driven to keep improving
* Embraces equality, compassion, and the Oasis ethos
* Wants to contribute to a supportive and forward‑thinking team
* Whether you already have leadership experience or are ready to take your first formal step into departmental responsibility, we would love to hear from you.
