Director of Digital Marketing (f/m/d)

The Director of Digital Marketing is responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives to drive e-commerce webshop growth, increase institutional sales through lead generation, and expand author acquisitions using digital marketing channels SEO, SEA/PPC, display and paid social, email, and affiliate marketing. This role will also enhance journal submissions, book proposal generation and readership through targeted digital marketing strategies. This position reports to the VP of Marketing.
* Drive revenue and traffic growth for the academic publishing webshop through digital marketing strategies, including PPC/SEA, display advertising, considering all relevant channels, typical customer journeys, and conversion rate optimization along the sales funnel.
* Implement targeted digital campaigns to attract new institutional clients, nurture leads, and support the growth team with marketing automation.
* Develop and execute campaigns to attract authors, encourage journal submissions, and expand readership.
* Establish and manage new marketing team and functions, including SEA, display advertising and paid social, and affiliate programs – train members and embed best practice to meet sales objectives
* Work closely with the sales, analytics, IT, and e-commerce teams to ensure alignment of marketing efforts with business objectives.
* Develop and manage digital marketing budgets, ensuring optimal allocation of resources for maximum effectiveness.
Track, analyze, and optimize marketing campaigns using Google Analytics, Salesforce, and other performance tools to maximize ROI and report of defined KPIs.
Oversee SEO initiatives and content marketing strategies to drive organic growth and enhance brand visibility and optimize for open access usage and e-commerce.
Your profile
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
* Minimum 8+ years of experience in digital marketing, preferably within academic publishing or a related B2B sector.
* Strong expertise in performance marketing (PPC, display ads), marketing automation, and CRM (Salesforce).
* Proven track record of driving e-commerce growth, institutional lead generation, and customer retention.
* Experience with web analytics tools (Google Analytics, Power BI) to monitor and improve campaign performance.
* Expertise in paid media platforms (Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, programmatic display advertising, Google Merchant Center).
* Data-driven approach with experience in analytics, A/B testing, and campaign and product feed optimization.
* Understanding of e-commerce best practices, UX optimization, and conversion rate improvements.
* Proficiency in SEO, SEM, and content-driven lead generation strategies and social media strategies within academic or publishing environments.
