At The Myton Hospices, we provide specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, from the point of diagnosis to end of life. We are a much-loved and well supported charity, at the heart of our community. We have three hospices, a range of community services, and 25 charity shops in Coventry and Warwickshire.
This Nursing Assistant role is a dual role, working in both the Myton at Home (Hospice at Home) setting and the hospice inpatient unit. The role will require the postholder to work flexibly to meet the needs of the services.
Main duties of the job
In patients homes, the post holder will provide compassionate, patient-centred care under the supervision of registered nurses. When working on the inpatient unit, will assist with the provision of direct patient care. Under the direction of registered nursing staff, the postholder will carry out any other activities which contribute to efficient communication and to the provision of nursing care.
Providing evidence based, individualised end of life care, when working in the community Myton at home team, the post holder will support the Primary Healthcare teams in the delivery of its services, in line with the District Nurses care plan, whilst adhering to statutory regulations and Hospice policies and procedures.
The post holder will at all times work with care, compassion, competence, good communication, courage and commitment.

* Experience of hospice, hospital or community nursing
* NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent (either achieved, working towards or willing to undertake)
* Understanding of safeguarding and food hygiene
* Basic IT skills
* The right to work in the UK (we cannot support with sponsorship)
Other roles you may have experience of could include: Health Care Assistant, HCA, Care Support Worker, Carer.
We will carry out an enhanced DBS check including the adults barred list because you will be providing adult healthcare, which is a regulated activity. We will cover the cost of this check.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* To assist the nursing staff on the inpatient unit with the range of duties within the competence or limitation of their level of experience/training.
* To work under the direct and indirect supervision of the Hospice at Home Deputy, in the delivery of quality, holistic nursing care for patients in their own homes.
* Recognise and feedback any changes in patient condition and where required take appropriate action to support care and treatment under the direction of a Registered nurse and in line with patient care plans.
* To ensure effective communication with staff and patients and to refer back to the Registered nurse as appropriate.
* Actively contributes and promotes a team approach to care based on mutual support and respect.
* Ensures safe and responsible use of equipment, identifies and reports to senior colleagues any malfunctions and takes action to maintain safety as directed.
* Following appropriate training, performs and records accurately observations of temperature, pulse, blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, intake and output, weight, urine tests, demonstrating an understanding of normal results and the importance to promptly report results out of normal range.
* Assists with patients nutritional requirements and maintains accurate nutritional records.
