Prison Law Supervisor - Legal Aid - CLAS accreditation required - Middlesex - £30k-£40k We are on the hunt for a Prison Law Supervisor, holding a Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) accreditation, to join a UK-headquartered, international law firm operating in the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and Africa. The Prison Law Supervisor will be responsible for providing specialist legal advice and representation to clients in custody, ensuring compliance with prison law, human rights and relevant statutory frameworks. As the Prison Law Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising casework, mentoring junior solicitors and/or paralegals and ensuring high-quality legal services are delivered. What we’re looking for: * Qualified solicitor holding a current, non-conditional practising certificate for the last 3 years * Hold Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS) accreditation * Experience supervising at least 1 FTE Designated Fee Earner or Caseworker (min. 1 year), or completed formal supervisory-skills training within the last 12 months * Undertaken a minimum of 350 hours of direct casework in the last 12 months (or 1,050 in the last 5 years if working part-time) * Undertaken at least 4 Parole Board or Independent Adjudicator representations in the last year * Undertaken at least 6 Police Station Advice & Assistance cases in the last year * Experience in magistrates’ / Crown Court representations * Highly organised nature with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy * Excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal skills * Good professional judgement and discretion * Supervisory skills with the ability to manage team members * Commitment to ongoing professional development, compliance with law and procedures and high standards of legal practice Key responsibilities as the Prison Law Supervisor will include: * Ensuring the required standards are maintained at appointments and continuously thereafter * Undertaking direct casework, including police station and court representations, to maintain expertise * Providing guidance and support to fee-earners to support professional growth * Supervising and mentoring fee-earners or caseworkers * Ensuring all cases meet contractual, legal and procedural standards * Maintaining records of supervision and training * Conducting documented supervision and proportionate file reviews based on fee-earner experience * Ensuring team performance meets departmental and contractual expectations And more.
