Healthcare Assistant – Bank Position
Primary Care 24 (PC24) is looking for experienced Healthcare Assistants to join our bank workforce in a variety of Primary Care GP practices and Alder Hey Hospital.
Contract: Bank
Salary: £13.86 – £14.25 per hour (Depending on department)
Location: GP practice sites in Litherland, Hightown, Crosby, Crossways, Maghull, Thornton, Seaforth, Netherton, Netherley, Garston and Alder Hey Hospital.
Shifts:
* GP practices – Monday to Friday 08:00 – 18:00
* Alder Hey – Monday to Sunday 09:00 – 21:00 (bank shifts available Saturday & Sunday AM & PM, Wednesday PM & Tuesday AM)
Responsibilities
Primary Care – GP Practices
* Patient health checks – measuring blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height and weight, and urinalysis.
* Venipuncture and specimen collection as directed by clinicians.
* Administer vaccinations confidently (under PSD).
* Support long‑term condition monitoring – foot checks, peak flow inhaler technique, blood sugar (BM) readings.
* Assist clinicians with application of non‑adherent dressings.
* Act as a chaperone when required.
* Liaise with other services and organisations to develop best evidence‑based practices.
* Complete accurate records in line with legislation and policy.
* Identify, assess, manage and raise any risks or incidents and share best practice.
* Enable patients to access appropriate professional care within the practice team.
* Monitor work areas to ensure they are safe and conform to health, safety, and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Alder Hey – Same Day Urgent Care Unit
* Prepare all clinical rooms before each shift, checking medical and IT equipment is in place and working.
* Work as part of an MDT with GPs and Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) to ensure smooth service delivery.
* Greet and check in patients in the clinical system upon arrival.
* Conduct clinical observations on patients as required.
* Escalate to a senior clinician immediately if concerned about a patient’s clinical condition.
Qualifications & Experience
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care.
* Minimum of 6 months proven experience in a healthcare environment such as an emergency department, walk‑in centre, or GP practice.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt to individual needs.
* Ability to liaise with multidisciplinary team members, healthcare professionals and colleagues.
* Flexibility to work across all PC24 sites or Alder Hey Hospital.
