We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is interested in clinical research to join our world leading cystic fibrosis (CF) clinical trials team, located close to the vibrant King’s Road in Chelsea.
You will work in the group of Prof Jane Davies (), Prof Nick Simmonds () and Clare Saunders (Research Service Lead); a team of dynamic, enthusiastic and dedicated clinicians, research nurses and scientists undertaking early and late phase clinical trials seeking improved treatment for both adults and children with CF. This will provide you with unparalleled opportunities to develop your expertise within CF research.
As a Clinical Research Practitioner/Nurse you will play an integral role in the delivery of high quality early and late phase research which could range from infants through to adults with CF. You will be required to work collaboratively with the clinical team and wider multi-disciplinary team supporting an exciting portfolio of commercial and academic led clinical trials; making a valued contribution in assessing and managing the care pathways for patients participating in research. This will involve supporting the identification, recruitment, education and monitoring of patients participating in research along with the timely collection and documentation of accurate data.
The team is part of the UK CF Trust Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform (CTAP; ) and the European CF Society Clinical Trials Network (). Both initiatives provide opportunities for our patients to participate in trials of new, cutting-edge medicines.
The post requires you to have excellent communication skills, an ability to understand and comply with clinical protocols, and the ability to work autonomously. In this exciting and rewarding role, you will be at the heart of research into cystic fibrosis. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Identifying and recruiting potential participants for clinical research studies, working closely with patients, families, and clinical teams.
2. Providing compassionate and courteous front-line support to study participants, whether in the clinic or over the phone, ensuring their questions and concerns are handled with professionalism and empathy.
3. Performing and reviewing clinical assessments, including the collection and processing of blood or other biological samples, while always prioritising participant comfort and safety.
4. Maintaining accurate, detailed, and up-to-date records of your findings, in full compliance with local policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
5. Keeping your knowledge current in the field of cystic fibrosis and clinical research by engaging in regular training and attending national and international conferences, with opportunities to pursue areas of personal interest.
6. Contributing to the writing of research reports and publications, helping to shape the evidence base for future treatments and care.
7. You must be Educated to degree level in a healthcare or science-related subject or Professional Nursing Qualification with valid NMC registration, or equivalent proven experience.
8. Experience of working directly with patients / study participants in a clinical setting is essential and experience of working with children is desirable
9. A good understanding of clinical terminology is required, and ideally in respiratory physiology
10. You must have proven experience of organisational, record keeping, and time management skills, accurate data management, knowledge of handling confidential information and an understanding of current legislation and requirements
11. Excellent written and oral communication skills and computer literacy are essential
12. You must have the ability to work independently, effectively and flexibly as part of a team-unit and cooperate in the accomplishment of departmental goals and organisational objectives
