Trainee or Senior Pharmacy Assistant

The Pharmacy Homecare team are looking to recruit a Trainee/Senior Pharmacy Assistant who is enthusiastic, self‑motivated, and has excellent time‑management skills.

The Homecare service provides a fantastic service to patients, allowing them to receive and administer their medication at home. The candidate will be working with multidisciplinary teams in the trust and with Homecare providers, so must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate must be organised, have excellent attention to detail and must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate must be able to adapt to the changing demands of the service.

Candidates must be willing to work towards completing the Level 2 Dispensing Pharmacy qualification; applications are welcome from those who already hold this qualification. If you already have the required qualifications and skills, then you will start the role as a Senior Pharmacy Assistant, Band 3. Candidates will also contribute to the weekend and bank holiday rota.


Main duties of the job

This role will include:

* Dealing with queries and problem solving.
* Maintaining records of prescriptions and supply of medicines to patients.
* Following procedures and guidelines.
* Communicating with a variety of stakeholders and service providers.
* Prioritising workload to ensure that deadlines are met.
* Dispensing home‑care medication on our pharmacy stock‑control system.
* Raising requisition numbers for home‑care prescriptions on our pharmacy stock‑control system.
* Booking in and processing orders on our pharmacy stock‑control system.
* Updating data on our pharmacy stock‑control system.
* Processing and completing home‑care prescription requests.
* Dealing with invoice queries.
* Supporting new starters with training.
* Dispensing medication for patients in the hospital on our pharmacy stock‑control system.

Person Specification


Education

* Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent, Maths and English at C or above – or equivalent qualification. Proof of qualifications required.
* QCF Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services – including units relevant to post. Proof of qualifications required.


Experience

* Ability to work to protocols, procedures and SOPs and suggest changes.
* Pharmacy experience.
* Hospital pharmacy experience.


Skills

* Ability to use a range of computer programmes relevant to the post.
* Effective use of initiative.
* Able to work in a team and alone.
* Understands the needs of customers, including patients and staff.
* Flexible to changing work routines and demands.
* Ability to plan & prioritise own workload in the face of changing demands.
* Effective time management and ability to work within time constraints.
* Ability to handle moderate loads.
* Good communication & interpersonal skills.
