Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional individual to join the Kent and South London area Installations team. The role involves varied, challenging and interesting work within a supportive environment. Salary and grading will be based on experience and skills, and a training and development programme is available for the successful applicant.
Responsibilities
* Regulate sites with Installations permits under the Environmental Permitting Regulations, primarily Landfill/Deposit for Recovery, Biowaste Treatment and Hazardous and Non‑Hazardous Waste treatment sites.
* Ensure permit compliance by conducting site inspections and audits to assess operators’ ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resources.
* Analyse and interpret environmental monitoring and performance data.
* Undertake appropriate enforcement and remediation action for a range of non‑compliances and environmental incidents at permitted sites.
* Use influencing and negotiating skills to promote best practice.
* Collaborate with other regulatory bodies, authorities and stakeholders.
* Engage with people at all levels within industry, local communities and other interested groups.
* Participate in the assessment of and response to environmental incidents.
Qualifications and Experience
* Significant regulatory or equivalent industrial experience across a range of industries.
* Excellent influencing skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.
* Experience delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
* Ability to work in teams and support colleagues to achieve common goals.
* Strong time‑management and prioritisation skills to deliver outcomes against plans.
* A proven track record of taking initiative and employing a continuous improvement approach.
* Hold an honours degree (or equivalent), ideally in a science or engineering discipline.
* Full UK driving licence.
Additional Information
The role will be based at Orchard House, Addington, West Malling Kent. Responding to incidents is an integral part of the position; you will need to be available for incident support and may receive additional payment and training. Full alternative working arrangements will be available to support your incident role.
