About The Federation of Independent Retailers
The Federation of Independent Retailers (the Fed) is one of the UK's largest trade associations representing independent retailers across the convenience sector. We exist to help our members make more money, save more money and make running their businesses easier through strong supplier partnerships, commercial opportunities and industry representation.
Main Purpose of the Role
* Ensure daily management of supplier relationships is maintained to the highest standard, delivering excellent client care.
* Secure revenue from new and existing suppliers through print, digital and event solutions.
* Negotiate and agree commercial terms with suppliers that support the Fed's mission to help members make money, save money and make business easier.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Act as the first point of contact for your supplier client base.
* Understand each supplier's objectives and create impactful, innovative and commercially effective proposals.
* Proactively promote opportunities across the Fed's print, digital and event platforms.
* Maintain and grow existing relationships while identifying and securing new business opportunities.
* Develop a strong understanding of the convenience retail market and identify opportunities that align supplier goals with member needs.
* Work collaboratively with internal departments to ensure delivery of agreed activity on time and to a high standard.
* Provide detailed post-campaign reporting, including performance and engagement insights.
* Attend and represent the Fed at events, activations and trade shows across the UK.
* Ensure all agreed activity is invoiced and payments are received in line with agreed terms.
* Maintain a strong understanding of independent retailers and their challenges, ensuring supplier activity delivers genuine value to members.

* Proven experience in sales and business development.
* A proactive, hands-on professional with integrity and strong relationship-building skills.
* Demonstrable ability to drive and maximise income through collaborative trading relationships.
* Confident communicator capable of influencing and negotiating at all levels.
* Strategic thinker with the ability to translate ideas into practical delivery.
* Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.
* Committed to delivering high-quality, client-focused service in a competitive environment.
Technical and Work-Based Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong negotiation ability.
* Creative, enthusiastic and commercially minded.
* Flexible approach to working hours, including some evenings.
* Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the UK.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* IT literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work within a target-driven environment.
* Full UK driving licence required.
