Our team in Scotland also lead delivery of these transport infrastructure projects, which provides a range of opportunities for you to take on client facing roles for those with established skills or allowing the development your project management and commercial skills, facilitating long-term opportunities for career development.

Is this role right for you?

If you’re passionate about delivering high‑quality highways and infrastructure projects, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll bring experience in using industry‑standard software (such as Civils 3D, AutoCAD, AutoTrack, PDS Line, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage) and supporting the design and delivery of projects of varying scale. You’ll be confident communicating technical concepts, producing clear reports, presenting ideas, and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

We’re keen to speak with individuals who hold an HND, degree or master’s in a relevant field, are professionally qualified or working toward qualification, and have genuine enthusiasm for a career in transport—particularly the full lifecycle of highway projects and the wider sector.

As a Highway Engineer or Senior Highway Engineer at Arup, you will have the opportunity to:

1. Lead the design and project management of diverse transportation projects,
2. Develop and review drawings, reports, calculations, cost estimates and specifications, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
3. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients and project stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
4. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
5. Prepare bid documents for high-profile projects, working within tight deadlines.

You’ll support the delivery of highways and infrastructure projects across their full lifecycle—contributing to design, coordination, feasibility studies, statutory processes and NEC documentation. Experience with NEC Project Management or Design & Build schemes is a bonus.

You’ll bring an HND, degree or master’s in a relevant field, plus experience using industry‑standard software. Strong communication skills, the ability to explain technical issues clearly, and confidence working in multidisciplinary teams are essential. We welcome applicants who are professionally qualified or working towards qualification and who are genuinely enthusiastic about transport and highways projects.
