Graduate Training Scheme
The Graduate Training Scheme is a structured, hands‑on programme spanning 4–5 years that provides the skills, experience and opportunities to become future leaders within the Environment Agency.
* Diverse placements – 6–12 month rotations across teams such as asset management, strategic planning, site supervision and specialist units (Modelling and Forecasting, Natural Flood Management, National Fisheries Service, Health and Safety).
* Flexible pathways – Tailored learning opportunities to suit interests in geotechnics, hydraulics, logistics of project management, etc.
* Learning & Development – Accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), guiding graduates toward Incorporated (IEng) and Chartered (CEng) status.

Roles & Expectations
Graduates will work collaboratively with stakeholders, manage projects, and gain exposure to a variety of teams. You will be expected to undertake training, participate in incident response duties, and travel as required to support flood defence assets, development events and team meetings.

Qualifications & Eligibility
* Graduate with an accredited BEng or (ideally) MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
* Both BEng and Masters must be accredited by the ICE to satisfy IEng or CEng academic requirements.
* Full UK driving licence within 6 months of starting.
* Professional licence status not required at entry level but encouraged.

Shortlisting will take place in January 2026 with interviews in February/ March 2026. Successful candidates start in September 2026. Please fully populate the Higher Education qualifications section of the application form. CVs are not accepted for shortlisting.

Peterborough, England, United Kingdom – Graduate Engineer pay step 2 (£31,452) for BEng, pay step 3 (£32,237) for MEng / equivalent. Travel required for flood defence assets and events.
