We are recruiting for a Chassis Systems Engineer - Longitudinal Function to be based at our customer's site in Gaydon. Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing within the ASPICE framework. ESS also integrates project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity to ensure ASPICE compliance and deliver reliable, secure embedded systems & solutions.
The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Longitudinal Function Engineer to support the development and lifecycle documentation of longitudinal control systems within the Chassis Engineering domain. This role bridges software systems development and structured documentation, ensuring longitudinal functions (such as braking, acceleration, and cruise control) are accurately captured, traceable, and compliant with engineering and safety standards. You will translate system behaviour and architecture into clear, maintainable documentation that supports cross-functional development, validation, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for longitudinal chassis functions (e.g., brake blending, torque control, adaptive cruise, stop & go).
* Collaborate with software and systems engineers to capture system architecture, control logic, and interface definitions.
* Ensure documentation aligns with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262), ASPICE, and internal quality processes.
* Maintain traceability between requirements, design, implementation, and validation using tools like DOORS, Polarion, or equivalent.
* Support change management and version control of documentation throughout the development lifecycle.
* Participate in design and peer reviews to ensure documentation completeness and technical accuracy.
* Interface with cross-functional teams including calibration, integration, and vehicle dynamics to ensure alignment.
* Contribute to the development of documentation templates, guidelines, and best practices for chassis systems.
* Bachelor\'s degree in Automotive Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
* Strong experience in software systems development or documentation within chassis or motion control systems.
* Strong understanding of longitudinal vehicle dynamics and control systems (e.g., braking, propulsion, cruise control).
* Experience with documentation and requirements management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS, Polarion, JIRA).
* Familiarity with embedded software architecture and vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, FlexRay).
* Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
