Senior structural engineer

Edinburgh
Stantec
Structural engineer
Posted: 4 May
Offer description

You’re a Senior Structural Engineer who wants more than just delivering packages of work. You want to lead projects, influence design decisions early, and be part of a team where your input carries weight. At Stantec, you’ll join a well-established and growing Structural Engineering team in Glasgow or Edinburgh, working on complex, high-profile building projects across the UK. You’ll operate within a genuinely multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with Civil, MEP, Environmental, Energy and Water teams, giving you exposure to broader project challenges and opportunities beyond your own discipline.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will lead the structural design of building projects from early concept through to construction, taking responsibility for the technical delivery and overall quality of outputs. You’ll be involved in shaping design solutions, coordinating with other disciplines, and ensuring that projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

You’ll oversee calculations, specifications, and technical documentation, while providing direction and support to engineers and technicians within the team. Alongside design leadership, you’ll play a key role in managing project workloads, contributing to resource planning, and supporting the commercial performance of projects.

You’ll also engage directly with clients, architects, and stakeholders—building relationships, contributing to bids and proposals, and representing the team in meetings and industry settings.

YOUR IMPACT

You’ll be central to delivering projects that define the built environment across multiple sectors, from education and healthcare to commercial, residential and energy developments. Your role will go beyond technical delivery—you’ll influence how projects are approached, guide teams through complex challenges, and help shape outcomes that are both practical and forward-thinking.

As a senior member of the team, your impact will also be felt internally. You’ll support the development of engineers, contribute to team capability, and play a part in how the business continues to grow in Scotland and across the wider UK.

ABOUT YOU

1. Degree qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent)

2. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or progressing toward chartership) with IStructE or ICE

3. Proven experience delivering building structures across a range of sectors

4. Strong design, analytical and problem-solving capability (software and hand calculations)

5. Confident communicator, able to engage with clients and stakeholders

6. Interested in developing client relationships and contributing to business development
