Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Vehicle Technician/MOT Tester to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and be adept at using hand and power tools. As an MOT Tester, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of vehicles, contributing to the overall quality of service provided by our garage.
About the Role
Youll be responsible for conducting thorough MOT tests on a variety of vehicles, ensuring compliance with legal standards. Inspecting and assessing vehicle components, including brakes, lighting, steering and suspension systems. Using hand tools and power tools effectively to perform necessary repairs or adjustments. Maintain accurate records of inspection and any work carried out. Communicating findings of vehicles to the workshop manager clearly and professionally. Adhering to health and safety regulations while working in the garage environment. Assisting with heavy lifting tasks as required during vehicle inspections or repairs.

The client is Combined Motors, an independent garage in Northampton, with over 50 years in the business. With 8 bays and a reputation for servicing everything from small cars to light commercials, diagnostics, brakes, exhausts, cambelts and wet belts and more. Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Key Duties
* Perform MOT inspections to all legal standards, including checks of safety-critical systems
* Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and emissions faults and carry out repairs
* Service vehicles: oil changes, filter replacement, fluid top-ups, and related maintenance work
* Carry out MOT repairs on all makes and models
* Use diagnostic tools and software to identify fault codes, sensor & wiring issues
* Liaise with the workshop manager and office staff on findings
* Keep workspace, tools, and equipment clean, safe, and organised
Key Requirements
* Experience as an MOT tester and qualified Vehicle Technician
* Strong vehicle technician background: mechanical, electrical, diagnostics
* Comfortable working on a range of makes / models, including light commercial vehicles
* Good communication skills: able to explain issues clearly to customers and colleagues
* Reliable, punctual, with strong attention to detail
* Full UK driving licence
