Position Summary
We are seeking to hire a Senior Claims Examiner to join our London team.
The role will work under limited technical direction, investigates and effectively handles complex Property and Energy claims. Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination. Utilising claims policies and guidelines, reviews coverages, determines PD and BI exposure, secures information and negotiates and settles claims.
Key Responsibilities
1. With limited supervision, manages a portfolio of Property and Energy claims, ranging in complexity with a particular focus on Property written on both the Syndicate and Company platforms.
2. Experience in, Mining, Property D&F, Binders and Open Market required, although development support will be provided where necessary.
3. Experience in Property Treaty, Energy and Power Generation would be an advantage.
4. Interprets more complex or unusual policy coverages and determines if coverages apply to claims submitted, escalating issues as needed.
5. Coordinates and performs investigations and evaluates claims through contact with insureds, brokers, business partners and experts. Seeks early resolution opportunities.
6. Partners with Lawyers, customers, brokers, experts and insureds to develop a focused strategy for timely and cost effective resolution of more complex claims.
7. Proactively manages claims, setting appropriate reserves in line with reserving philosophy, and authorising payments within scope of authority.
8. Ensures large and significant claims are identified at an early stage and management are notified and kept advised, in line with claims handling guidelines.
9. Supports the Claims Leadership with structured feedback to Underwriting and other business stakeholders, through use of claims data and trend analytics, to support risk selection and guide Underwriting strategy.
10. Effectively manages claim diary, ensuring proactive management of the portfolio and reduced claims leakage, whilst actively managing static claims in accordance with claims handling procedures and contributing positively to the wider claims department KPI’s.
11. Provide guidance, assistance and mentoring to less experienced claims staff and other function areas.
12. Utilises negotiation skills to develop complex settlement packages.
13. Identifies claims with third party recovery potential and coordinates with subrogation/salvage unit.
14. Analyses claims activities. Prepares and presents reports for management. May be responsible for special projects and presentations.
15. Keeps current on relevant regulations and issues as well as industry activity and trends.
16. Complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensure, at a level appropriate to the position, that appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance.
17. May perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
18. Significant proven claims handling experience, preferably with a focus on Property/Energy classes.
19. Ability to handle claims with a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
20. Good understanding of policy language and application of law to policy language and adjusting.
21. Strong analytical and problem solving skills enabling viable alternative solutions.
22. Ability to assess the merits of claims as well as evaluating claims based on a cost benefit analysis.
23. Understanding of underwriting risk, disciplines and processes.
24. Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA Hardy's internal and external business partners.
25. Ability to adapt to change and value diverse opinions and ideas.
26. Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position.
